The first Africa Art & Design Fair was held at the Portico Gallery, West Norwood on Saturday 11 December and was formally opened by Councillor Florence Nosegbe, then Cabinet member for Culture, Sport and the 2012 Olympic Games.The event was held under the aegis of Streatham Women’s Sewing Group and directed by Fion Gunn. Lambeth institutions & organisations supported the event : Morley College, Spacemaker, Sunnyhill Children’s Centre and Lambeth Libraries (Tim O’Dell). Workshops were run by Carol Chapman (rag-rug making), Ifrah Odawa (beadwork), Jackie Mwanza (mosaic) and Verity Flute (paper flower making for children).
