OUR AIMS
We aim to:
(i) teach women to use sewing machines and to execute fine needlecraft; and
(ii) enable the women to participate in the making of art/craft works for display and sale at public events: and
(iii) provide free childcare as a subsidiary and necessary support to the main activity
(iv) aim to provide (or enable provision of) ESOL lessons for those who attend
(v) run an annual (Africa Art & Design Fair) to showcase the work produced through the company, in addition to artists and designers of Africa origin
(vi) run termly clothes sales
(vii) participate in local public events, such as International Women’s Day and Streatham Festival
(viii) promote further educational opportunities for the women involved

OUR MAIN ACTIVITIES
1. Teaching women from hard to reach social groups ( in particular Somalie and Refugee backgrounds) how to sew using machines along with creative needlework skills - beadwork, embroidery etc.
2. Enabling these women to participate in making collaborative artwork each year and represent the Group at public community events such as Streatham Festival, International Womens' Day (Brixton) and Black History Month (October)
3. Promoting further education opportunities for the women with local partners, currently Morley College who provide the women with ESOL classes and Sunnyhill Children's centre that provide creche facilities.
4. Running an African Art and Design Fair to showcase Fine art & design made by emerging London artists of African origins alongside the work of the Streatham Women's Sewing Group
5. Running sales of work at Sunnyhill Centre so that the women can sell what they produce and take orders for other work.
